Nuit des Musées – Night of the Museums

Saturday 20th May 2017

Theme: Courage et Responsabilité – Courage and Responsibility

With OCHRE MAGIC, the Burkhardt-Felder Foundation Arts and Culture shows in its museum for Australian Aboriginal art “La grange” the art of the Kimberley in the high North of Western Australia, known for its use of ochre. Since ancient times, Aboriginal people have been using ochre in ceremonies and rituals. Artists in this exhibition have been collecting their own ochre in order to create stunning contemporary artworks.

The founders of the Foundation, of Swiss origin, spent over twenty years in Australia. It is there where the adventure began and a collection of Aboriginal artworks took shape, a collection which they now share with the visitors of “La grange”. This museum is situated in an outbuilding of the Château d’Ivernois, built in 1721,  acquired by the Foundation in 2002 and renovated with respect.

Australian Aboriginal art fascinates by its blend of traditional influence and modern interpretation, created by an ancient people who was forced to adjust to our way of life. Rich in experience, the founders of this museum will be happy to share anecdotes and analyze the “Courage” of this people as well as explain the “Responsibility” we have vis-à-vis this Indigenous culture.

Testimonials

January 31st, 2017

On behalf of the Porsche 991 European Tour, I would like to pass on our thanks to Mr. Burkhardt for taking the time to show us around the wonderful motor museum in Môtiers. Hearing from the owner the history of how each individual car was acquired was absolutely fascinating. There are so many exceptional motorcars there it was a privilege to see and we were only sorry that pressure of time meant we could not stay longer.

With best wishes
